Winter Wonderland

This week has been very unusual for Dallas. We were hit by a massive ice storm on Monday night that left around an inch of solid ice on all the streets. The temperature dropped to the teens, so the ice was there to stay! All schools were cancelled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday due to ice.

Just when we thought it would start to melt...snow hit! Lots of it. We got at least 6 inches at our house in Plano. Another day off of school and Jay's office was closed too!

We had a lot of snow last year, but no where near the amount we got today! We took Bella out to play and she had a blast.

Mommy and Daddy had a pretty good time too...

Now we are waiting for it to melt so we can get out of the house!!

Bella and I spent a little over a week in El Paso in mid-December. It was so great for Bella to spend time with her Mimi, Zayde, Aunt Amy, Paddy, Nana, Papa & Nonnie.

Aunt Amy graduated from UTEP and Mimi & Zayde threw her a party. Bella was the belle of the party.

We spent a lot of time with the family while we were there. One day, Amy & Paddy took us to the El Paso Zoo. Bella loved it. It was a much different zoo from when Mommy was a kid!

All in all, it was a really fun trip with lots of fun times with family. We can't wait to go back!

Come Sail Away...

Last week, we went on a cruise to Key West and the Bahamas with the Singleton Family - Grandy & Grandpa and Aunt Karen & Uncle Lynn. It was really a great escape for a week and lots of fun.

Bella had a great time with her grandparents. They spoiled her rotten!

In Key West, we went to an awesome Butterfly Conservatory. If you are ever there, we highly recommend it. There were TONS of butterflies, birds and flowers. They said that if a butterfly landed on you, it was good luck. I hope this is true because the landed on all 3 of us!

In Freeport, we spent some time at a beautiful beach. Bella was a little nervous at first, but really got into it after a little while! She was jumping in the water and making sandcastles before we knew it!

Last week, I lost my grandfather and Bella lost one of her great-grandfathers. Poppy (Ken Given) you were a great man and are already sorely missed.

Pastries, Pumpkins and Prarie Wagons

We had a very fun and full day for Bella's 2nd birthday. We started the day with special birthday donuts.

After breakfast, we took her to the Dallas Arboretum. They have an amazing pumpkin festival every fall. She had a blast with all of the pumpkins.

Her favorite part of the whole Arboretum was the area called Prairie Town. This area has all types of houses from prairie times. There was a covered wagon that Bella was crazy about!

Party Time! Excellent!

This past weekend, we celebrated Bella's birthday (which is actually this Thursday) with a party and an awesome visit from Mimi, Zayde and Aunt Amy.

She started off the weekend by spending quality time with Mimi, doing what she loves most...reading.

Saturday was party day! We had the party at a park in our neighbor hood that has a great playground. We had lunch and a really fun craft station where the kids (and some adults) could decorate buckets for Halloween.

(BTW - we got the delicious cupcakes from a great kid, Brian, who is having a virtual bake sale with all proceeds going to end childhood hunger. Check out his website here.)

Bella got some amazing presents from her friends and we thank them all!

El Paso or Bust!

Bella and I just got back from spending a whole week in El Paso with Mimi & Zayde, Aunt "Mamy" (Amy) and Paddy, Nonnie & Poppy and Nana & Papa.

Bella had so much fun with her Aunt Amy. She was spoiled rotten by all of the gifts and had so much fun playing with her at the park, coloring and reading books.

Bella also got to spend quality time with her Mimi & Zayde.

We finished up the week with a party for Nana & Papa's 55th Anniversary and Papa's 80th Birthday as well as the Fourth of July.

Bella started Preschool this week! She is such a big girl! She goes to school every day and is loving it! She has 2 sweet teachers - Ms. Evelyn and Ms. Marina - who are great. Here are some pictures from Day 1.

Go Cubs Go!

This past weekend, Zayde came to town to visit. The highlight of the weekend was a trip the the Ballpark in Arlington for the Cubs vs. Rangers game. Zayde was so excited to be able to take Bella to her first Cubs game.

It was a really fun game, full of lots of yummy ballpark food (Bella liked to dip her pb&j into the nacho cheese), friends (we ran into our friends Trish & Grayson!) and best of all...a victory for the Cubs!!

Picture Perfect

18 months already??

Bella turned 18 months last week and had her doctor appointment today. She weighed in at 21.5 pounds (in the 10th percentile) and is 31 inches tall (25th percentile). She is on the small side, but Dr. D said she is looking great.

She was a total trooper with her iron test and vaccinations. There were a few tears, but a Dora sticker cheered her up quickly.

Spring Break!

We have had such a fun spring break! Mimi came to visit on Wednesday and stayed through Saturday. On Thursday, we had a picnic and playdate in the park with Bella's good friends Catie, Elliott, LD & Grayson.

We also had lots of fun playing and shopping with Mimi and were really sad to say goodbye. We can't wait to see her again next month!

Happy Purim

This Sunday, Bella celebrated Purim! For those of you who are not quite sure what Purim is, click here. Every year, Shearith puts on an amazing Purim Carnival that is especially great for kids. There are bounce houses, games, face painters, a petting zoo and much more. All of the kids (and adults!) dress up in costumes and have FUN! Here are a few pictures of Bella having a ball. Snow Fun!

This week, Dallas had record breaking snowfall. On Thursday, it started snowing at 3:00 am and didn't stop until midnight! In the end, we got 12 inches of snow!

Unlike the last time it snowed, Bella seemed to really enjoy it! She was sticking her tongue out to catch the flakes and played for quite a while. We attempted to make a snowman, but she didn't really have the patience for it.

Haircut again?

Bella got her 3rd haircut today. Yes, that's correct. 15 months old and 3 haircuts. Bella really hates haircuts. We thought we would make it more fun by taking her to a Cool Cuts for Kids. They put her in a really cool car and put Dora on the TV. There was no fooling her though, she still cried the whole time. The end result is definitely worth it!

Winter Break!

Bella has had a very exciting couple of weeks! We had a huge snowstorm on Christmas. Bella was curious about the snow, but was not a huge fan.

We went to Bridgeport, where Bella visited her great-grandmother Meem, Aunt Melanie, great-grandparents Nannie & GranGran and of course, Grandy & Grandpa. She came back totally spoiled with all sorts of fun toys, including a rocking horse!

We also had some fun play dates with friends. Our friend Oliver and Aiden came over and played. Their parents are Daddy's friends from childhood!

Daddy also had his 30th birthday party. Lots of friends came over to play. There was a Cowboys game that day, so we were dressed to support them!

Happy Hanukkah!

Bella had a great Hanukkah. We celebrated every night with candles and a gift for Bella. The first several nights, Aunt Bess and Uncle Nate came over and lit the candles with us and spoiled Bella a little. One night, Bella celebrated with her friends Alexa and Shane. Another night, we had Hanukkah dinner at our neighbor (and good friend's) house, the Harr family. The last couple of nights, Mimi and Zayde, Nana and Papa and Nonnie and Poppy came to town to celebrate Aunt Bess's graduation from UNT. It was a fun holiday and a great weekend with family. Gobble, Gobble!

Bella and I spent the week of Thanksgiving in El Paso with Mommy's family. It was such a fun trip. We spent lots of time with family and friends.

The highlight of the trip was Thanksgiving. Mimi and Zayde had everyone over to their house for dinner. Bella had her first Thanksgiving meal and really loved it. Another highlight of Thursday was the Texas game. Zayde made sure Bella was properly decked out for the game.

Friday was a very eventful day for Ms. Bella. She went to the famous Chico's Tacos and had her first taste of the tacos. Afterward, she had her first real haircut. She hated the haircut, but looked so cute!

Happy Halloween!

Although this was not Bella's first Halloween, it was the first one we celebrated! Bella had a very eventful Halloween season. The weekend before Halloween, she went to a party at our good friends the Rubensteins. We also went to a Fall Festival with her friends Jolie & James and carved pumpkins!

On Halloween, we went to a fun party at our neighbor's (the Dillard's) house. It was complete with a potluck dinner and bounce house! After dinner, the kids in the neighborhood went trick or treating together. After a few houses, we decided to go trick or treating at Aunt Bess and Uncle Nate's house.

After all of the fun, Bella was excited and exhausted!

Happy Birthday Bella!

Bella celebrated her 1st birthday in style - with 3 birthday parties! The first one was at her daycare. Auntie Manju threw a nice party with ice cream cake, Indian treats and presents.

The second party came on her actual birthday. She had cake and ice cream for the first time! Lots of her friends came out to celebrate.

Her third and final party was on Saturday at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve. Lots of friends and family came out to enjoy bagels, coffee, cupcakes, the playground and beautiful weather.

Many thanks to our friends and family for coming out to celebrate Bella's big day. It was a lot of fun! Special hugs to Mimi, Zayde, Nana, Papa, Aunt Amy & Uncle Paddy for coming all the way from El Paso!

One Year Old!

Bella had her one year old check up today. She is holding steady in the 25th percentile. She weighs 19 pounds, 7 ounces and is 28 inches long. She has 6 shots, but took it like a champ!

Poppy's 90th Birthday Party!

This past weekend, we went to San Diego to celebrate Bella's great-grandfather Poppy's 90th Birthday. Bella did really well on the flights to and from Dallas. We got there on Thursday and spent some time wandering around the city and had dinner as a family. Bella really loved the bread.

On Friday, we picked up Mimi & Zayde, Aunt Amy & Paddy and cousins Kelly & Sofia from the airport and then had lunch. We got to see the rest of the Given family at a barbecue at Aunt Liz & Uncle Wayne's house.

On Saturday, we all had breakfast and then went down to the beach. It was Bella's first experience with the beach and she was not really sure what to think. After a while, she started to like it

Saturday night was Poppy's birthday party. Bella got to wear a beautiful party dress (thanks Davina!). It was a wonderful party.

On Sunday, we had breakfast with the family. Bella had her first pastry and LOVED it. Afterward, we went to Aunt Liz and Uncle Wayne's house before heading to the airport.

Birthday Parties Galore!

This past weekend, we went to 3 birthday parties! The first one was on Friday night and was for me (Leah), Aunt Ali and Uncle Shaun's birthdays. Bella had a blast, especially with her boyfriend Shane. After months of dating (hahaha), they had their first kiss.

On Saturday, we went to the splash park to celebrate our friend Holden's first birthday with our good pals from the neighborhood. We had never been to the splash park and will be back for sure.

Later that afternoon, we went to a Sip and See for our new friend Elliott (ok, so it isn't a birthday party, but is close enough). Bella got to go swimming and play with her friends Grayson, LD, Eli and Briley.

Mimi's Visit!

This week, Mimi came to visit! We had so much fun. She came in on Wednesday afternoon. That night, we had dinner with Aunt Bess and Uncle Nate. On Thursday, Mimi bought a needlepoint pattern that she is going to make for Bella's room. We can't wait to see it! Then we had lunch with Aunt Bess and shopped all afternoon.

On Friday, we went to the Farmer's Market, visited Bess & Daddy at work, had lunch with Daddy and then ran errands in the afternoon. That night, we took Mimi out to dinner for her birthday!

On Saturday, we had brunch and then went shopping for Aunt Bess & Uncle Nate's new house. We had dinner at their house that night (yummy spaghetti!).

This morning, we had lunch together before taking Mimi to the airport. It was so fun spending time with her. Bella (and everyone else) will miss her!!

Yummy in the Tummy

This week Bella had her 9 month doctor appointment. She is doing great. She is 27 1/4 inches long (50th percentile) and 18 pounds (49th percentile). She is right on track for everything, from crawling to pulling up to stand. She still has no signs of teeth, but the doctor says that we have nothing to worry about.

One thing that Dr. D said is that we need to start feeding her more "adult" food. So far, we are on day 3 and here are the results:

Meatballs - Yuck! She spit them right out
Chicken - Yummy!
Olives - Delish!
Tomatoes - Okay in a pinch
Bread- Her favorite!
Eggs - Not so much...
Cheese - Patsy is thankful we fed her that!

What a weekend!

Bella had quite the eventful weekend! On Saturday, we headed (in our brand new big girl convertible carseat!) to North Richland Hills for Tracy & Chad's Baby Bash BBQ. There, Bella got to play with her friends Grayson, LD & Catie. Here are some pictures from that:

Crawling...what??

Today when I dropped Bella off at daycare, Manju (or Auntie as all the kids call her) told me that Bella sure crawls fast. I turned to her and said, "What? Bella doesn't crawl yet!" She responded, "Oh yes she does!" I then turned to look at Bella, who had army crawled her way across the floor. It turns out she does in fact move pretty fast! She does not get on her knees, but scooches along amazingly fast. Jay and I are going to redo the living room layout tonight to create more room for her to move around.

Anyways...it has been a while since the last update and a lot has happened!

Last week, on Thursday we had a doctor's appointment to check her ears since her last ear infection. The doctor said she is all clear! She weighed 18 pounds but has grown in length...tall and skinny! That night, we were able to meet up with Tina and Catie for dinner. Bella was not in the most social mood, so there was not much interaction there! On Friday, we went to Watauga to hang out with her friends Grayson and LD and then we all went to meet baby Briley. Bella has so many new friends! We also can't wait to meet the 2 other friends born last week, Isaac & Henry!

Sunday was Father's Day and Bella and I went to cheer Jay on at his softball game. She was the hit of the dugout! Grandy and Grandpa came up for lunch and to spend the afternoon with Bella. As you can see, they wore each other out!

We have an exciting couple of days coming up...Thursday is Henry Litt's bris, Saturday is a BBQ at the Sones' and Sunday is Alexa's baby naming. I am sure we will have more pictures to share next week!

Summer Fun!

We bought Bella a baby pool, which she absolutely adores! The first time she was in it, we couldn't get her out for 45 minutes! She will be a water baby for sure. This week, we also had a playdate at the park with Bella's new friends Elana & Shoshana. She loved the swings and we are looking forward to spending more time with them!

This weekend, we went to Bridgeport for the annual Singleton Family Reunion. She spent some time with her cousin Jonathan, who 3 months old. Bella spent the night with Grandpa & Grandy. Here are some pictures from that as well as a some from her trip to Bridgeport a few weeks ago.

She is eight months old this week and is growing leaps and bounds! She is on the brink of crawling. She gets up on her knees but hasn't yet figured out what to do next. We are expecting it to happen any day now!

Take me out to the ball game...

Bella had a really fun weekend. On Friday, she and Daddy went to Bridgeport to visit her great-grandmother Meem on her birthday.

On Saturday night, she had a slumber party at Aunt Bess's house. They hung out, played, and made new bows for Bella's hair.

On Sunday, Bella went to her first baseball game. She had fun watching all of the people and clapping when everyone else did. It was very hot and Bella was a total trooper!

Some new things...Bella is officially saying blah and Dada. We are not sure if she knows what she is saying, but it sure makes Daddy happy! She also likes to stand up while holding on to things, like the couch or ottoman. She has started eating lots of new foods and really loves all fruits. Her favorite things are the puff cereals. She could eat a whole box if I let her!

Bella also welcomed two new friends this week! Congratulations to Michelle & Stephen on the birth of Alexa Paige and Trish & David on the birth of David Lee Jr.

Leaving on a Jet Plane...

Bella had her first plane ride last week! We flew to El Paso to visit grandparents, Aunt Amy & great-grandparents. She did ok on the plane, but it definitely is not her favorite mode of transportation. Warning: this blog is going to be long and picture-heavy, so set some time aside!

We got to El Paso on Thursday afternoon. After lunch with Mimi & Aunt Amy, we went to visit Zayde at work. He was able to show Bella off to all of his co-workers. We also went to Al Varela's so that Mimi could show Bella off to her friends. We then went to see Uncle Brent and cousins Megan & Jacob. Bella also got to meet Tia Sofi! That night, we all (Mimi, Zayde, Amy & Paddy) went to dinner at our favorite Greek resturant to visit "our friend". They had a very scary high chair that basically consisted of an old carseat on a chair, but Bella LOVED it. She was having so much fun.

On Friday, Nana came over for a visit. We then had lunch with Zayde and then went to visit Papa and Julia (Julia helped raise me!). We also went over to see Nonnie & Poppy. Bella is completely fascinated by Poppy. We had dinner that night with Nonnie & Poppy.

On Saturday, we went to a fun birthday party and then lunch at Avila's. That afternoon we just hung out until dinner at Nana & Papa's.

Sunday, Mimi & Zayde took care of Bella for the day while Amy & I spent some time together. That afternoon, we went and spent some more time with the great-grandparents. We had dinner that night at home with the family. Bella spent a lot of time playing with Zayde and trying to bite his nose off.

We left to go back to Dallas on Monday. We had a great time and will miss everyone in El Paso!

The Mullet is Gone!

This was a very eventful week for Ms. Bella. She returned to daycare on Wednesday after spending a few days at home recovering from her ear and eye infections. Everyone was so happy to see her!

On Thursday, Bella started using her new ducky bathtub. It was a present from Aunt Amy for Hanukkah and we have been waiting for her to sit up on her own to use it. She LOVES it. She just lounges and plays with her toys in there.

On Friday, she met her Aunt (really 2nd cousin, but we like aunt better) Laura, who came to visit from Philadelphia. We had a fashion show with Bella's clothes and shoes and Bella and Laura played together for hours! Laura tried to take Bella home with her, but we would miss her too much.

Saturday was a very exciting day. First, we had a haircut! After weeks of trying to convince Daddy, we finally cut off the mullet! Then we went to a baby shower for Bella's soon-to-be friend Briley Bufe. Bella is going to have so many new friends soon!!!

Bella had her first ear infection this week. The doctor put the scope in her right ear and she started screaming. Dr. Kim looked at me and said, "Yup, ear infection." In addition to this, she had a mild eye infection. Her poor eyes were rimmed in red. Bella had to stay home from daycare for a few days, but got to spend quality time with Mom & Dad.

Before she became sick, Bella had a very eventful week. She attended a baby shower for her soon-to-be friend David Lee Rice, Jr. She was passed from person to person at the shower and was on her very best behavior (for the most part). She also started eating the food made at daycare. It is all Indian-based and she is learning to LOVE curry and tamarind spices.

Bella has become very strong on her legs and can stand while holding onto something. She can also fully sit up on her own. She acts like she is trying to crawl, so we better watch out! Her favorite toys this week are anything electronic...she loves to "type".

Bella's Weekend at Bernie's (or Grandpa and Grandy)

Bella spent the past weekend at her grandparent's house while Mom & Dad to a trip to Las Vegas. She had a ton of fun with them and attended her first estate sale and auction. Despite almost turning around and coming home (Mom had trouble leaving!!!), Mom & Dad went to Vegas and had a great time. I will post some pictures of Bella's weekend with the grandparents soon.

Bella also had her 6 month doctor appointment last week. She is 25 1/2 inches long and 16 pounds. That puts her in the 50th percentile. The doctor said she is doing great! She had her shots and took them like a champ.

Her favorite "toys" this week include paper and her shoes. She is easy to please. :) She has also tried zucchini (pretty yummy) and prunes (LOVE!!!).

Lions and Tigers and Matzah, oh my!

This week was full of new experiences for Bella! Wednesday was her very first Passover Seder. She sat at the table with the group (thank you to Bess, Nate, Elyssa, Ali, Mara, Cheryl, Mia and Jeremy for coming to our home!) for some of the time, but ended the evening in her swing. Her favorite part of Passover seems to be the Haggadah. She was very upset when we tried to take it away from her! On Thursday night, we attended Seder at the home of David, Annie, Gavriel, Ellie & Dani Glickman. Bella slept through the majority of the Seder, but enjoyed the parts she was awake for!

Today, we took Bella to the Dallas Zoo. She really liked the penguins, dwarf mongoose, wallabies, giraffe and monkeys. She was not at all interested in the reptile house, much to the disappointment of her Dad. We took her on a ride on the carousel, which she liked for the first few turns. All in all, it was a really fun day, although next time we will drive a little farther and go to the Ft. Worth Zoo instead.

Slumber Party!

Bella had her first slumber party Saturday night at Aunt Bess & Uncle Nate's house. She had a fun night that consisted of lots of eating, playing with their Patsy, reading magazines and laying around. This was to prepare us for our first weekend without her which is coming up pretty soon! We are going to Las Vegas in 2 weeks and Bella will be staying with Jay's parents (Grandy and Grandpa).

She is still loving daycare and has made lots of friends there. Most of the boys prefer the little blond girl at daycare, Mary Elizabeth, which it totally ok with Daddy! This week she has tried potatoes (her new favorite), bananas (not our fave) and apples (she licks her lips after every bite!).

She is still loving her exersaucer, but found a new favorite stuffed animal, her lobster. Her favorite "toy" by far is Patsy or any dog. She just can't get enough!

Jumping on the blog-wagon!

We have officially decided to start a blog dedicated to the world of Bella Singleton. This week she started daycare. It was a very sad day (for Mom). Bella loves her daycare and all of her friends there. She is happy when she is dropped off and in a great mood when she comes home. To add to the excitement of last week, she has also started "solid" foods. We are making homemade baby food. So far, she has tried squash (yummy!), sweet potatoes (her fave so far), peas (HATED!!!) and grean beans (still on the fence).

This weekend, we went to a birthday party for Bella's friend Emma, who just turned 2. There were tons of kids there and Bella had a blast watching them play. She also got to spend time with her friend Beatrice at the party.

Her favorite things to do this week are: playing in her Exersaucer, grabbing anything and everything and staring and petting Patsy .
